Seiko Instruments enters kiosk printer market by launching KPUS347

By introducing the complete kiosk printer solutions KPUS347 / KPUS447, a series of thermal line kiosk printer units, Seiko Instruments sets foot into the fast developing kiosk market.
As the current market leader in high quality thermal printing, SII transfers its knowledge and precise technology to this expanding market. Given this continuous, dynamic growth of the European kiosk market (25% expected for the forthcoming years), SII now launches a kiosk printer product with high design flexibility and comfortable product features to be designed-in to a multitude of existing and new applications.
Product Concept
KPUS347 and KPUS447 consist of a various parts: a paper roll holder, a thermal printer, a guillotine auto cutter, a presenter and an interface.
As to the paper roll holder, more than 650m of paper can be stored (using 60µm paper) with 228mm maximal paper roll diameter. A "Paper near end" - sensor detects when the paper roll is about to run out. The position of the paper roll can be selected to be set up either horizontally or vertically. Hence, the dimensions can be varied according to the requirements of the application.
Basic dimensions of KPUS347 (without paper holder) measure, for the horizontal type, 148x140x225mm and, for the vertical type, 148x140x235mm. Respectively, the dimensions for KPUS447 are 161x140x236mm (horizontal version) and 161x140x248mm (vertical version), without paper holder.
The thermal printer assures excellent resolution (8dots/mm) in characters and graphics of a high-performance, high-speed thermal printer with maximum print speed of 200mm/s (KPUS347) and 150mm/s (KPUS447). The ability to handle different paper widths from 58mm to 82.55mm (KPUS347) and 112mm (KPUS447) answers to the demand for flexibility. Automatic paper loading and platen open function support easy paper handling. Head temperature, paper flow and platen position are constantly sensor controlled.
The integrated auto cutter is of sliding mode. After being cut, the printout is presented via a patented roll presenter system. In case the printout is not taken, an automatic receipt withdrawal function (retraction) will be activated to avoid paper jams.
Finally, the interface supports parallel, serial or USB data transmission. For parallel and serial input the drivers Windows 95, 98, 2000 NT4.0, for USB input driver Windows 98 and 2000 are available. All standard bar codes can be realized.
